From PPS’ Cliff Davis: The Petersburg City Public Schools Board will hold a call meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, March 10, at the School Board Office, 255 E. South Blvd., to discuss student conduct and personnel matters. The meeting will be a closed session.

PPS’ 2008-2009 budget meetings
PPS’ Cliff Davis has forwarded notice of the following meetings:
* On Thursday, March 6 at 6 p.m., the Petersburg School Board will hear a presentation on the proposed 2008-2009 budget.
* On Thursday, March 13 at 6 p.m., the Board will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget.
* On Wednesday, March 19 at 6 p.m., the Board is expected to adopt the budget.
All meetings are at the School Board Office, 255 E. South Blvd., and are open to the public.

PPS to hold Supplemental Educational Services rally Jan. 16
PPS will hold an SES rally Jan. 16, 4-6pm, at Vernon Johns Middle School, 3101 Homestead Dr., to help parents and students select an SES provider and receive free tutoring services. The rally will be held at the school’s gymnasium.

From PPS’ Cliff Davis: “By the end of today, the administration of the Petersburg City Public Schools intends to have new paychecks prepared and delivered, for the approximately 210 employees who do not have direct deposit and, for reasons that are still being investigated, did not receive a check on December 20.” Read more >

Dec 20 paycheck delivery concerns from Petersburg City Public Schools
From PPS’ Cliff Davis — “To all employees of Petersburg City Public Schools who are not enrolled in direct deposit: Our finance department followed the normal procedure to deliver the hard copies of your December 20 paycheck. For some unexplained reason, which is being investigated, some of those checks have not been received. Any employee needing a replacement check should contact the finance department, at 732-0510, on Wednesday, January 2. The finance department cannot create replacement checks until after the bank has stopped payment on the originals, which cannot be done until Monday, Dec. 31.”

Prayer vigil at Pegram St.
From PPS’ Cliff Davis: A candlelight prayer vigil will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Pegram Street site of a fatal house fire this week that claimed the lives of three children and injured a Petersburg City Public Schools employee. The vigil will be from 7:30pm to 8:30pm. There will be a speaker. It is sponsored by Friends Of, a charitable organization in the city. The Petersburg City Public Schools has no official connection to this organization but we encourage district staff to do whatever they can to assist the survivors of this fire and to seek out opportunities for comfort in dealing with their own grief related to this tragedy. Petersburg schools’ Average Yearly Progress stats
The Dept. of Education has released statistics on schools’ AYP performance statewide. In Petersburg, Walnut Hill Elem. and Robert E. Lee Elem. continue to meet AYP targets, the other schools continue to not meet AYP targets, for the 2006-07 academic year. Read more >
