MoBooksMoBikesMobile coming to Pathways, July 18

As part of their effort to promote literacy and alternative transportation, the folks at Books On Wheels are bringing the MoBooksMoBikesMobile to Pathways (1200 W. Washington St.) Friday, July 18, from 10am to noon. They will offer free books and free bike repair to the community. They will also accept donations of books and/or bikes/bike parts. Read more >

Pathways opens doors
Over 250 people packed the hall at 1200 W. Washington St. to take part in Pathways’ Open House and Dedication Ceremony on April 6. The event attracted residents, donors, volunteers and city officials alike. As people were still arriving, the main hall was filled with the melodic sound of the Celestial Messengers, a local acapella ensemble. Dwala Ferrell, Executive Director of Pathways, told of the humble beginnings of the non-profit community development corporation, housed in a rented warehouse for the last eight years. Read more >

Pathways Open House and Dedication Ceremony, April 6
Pathways’ Open House and Dedication Ceremony will be April 6 at 3:00 pm. The new facility at 1200 W. Washington St. will be open for self-guided tours following a ribbon cutting ceremony with guest speaker Judge Roger L. Gregory. Entertainment will be provided by the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School Jazz Ensemble.

Tour a kitchen to build a kitchen
Pathways will be hosting Petersburg’s first annual home kitchen tour on March 16 from 1-5pm. The event will showcase seven beautiful kitchens from homes across downtown Petersburg, with styles ranging from Old World to Ultra Modern. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 on the day of the tour. Petersburg’s YouthBuild gets $1.1m grant from Dept. of Labor
YouthBuild programs aim to help young people ages 16-24 who have dropped out of school “work toward their GED or high school diploma, learn job skills and serve their communities by building affordable housing, and transform their own lives and roles in society.” Petersburg’s YouthBuild is run by Pathways (formerly Petersburg Urban Ministries — which does a lot…Lead Safe program, Americorps, etc.).
