Cameron Foundation’s latest grant cycle awards $2.7 million to 25 nonprofits in the region

During its most recent meeting in June, The Cameron Foundation’s board approved $2,745,482 in new grant funding for 25 nonprofits throughout the Tri-Cities and Southside Virginia. This is the Foundation’s second of three grant cycles in 2008, with the third to conclude in October.

Free kidney health screening

The National Kidney Foundation of the Virginias will hold a free kidney health screening on Saturday, May 31, 10:00am - 2:00pm at Southside Regional Medical Center (801 South Adams St., Petersburg, VA, 23803). Physicians and nurses will be on site to conduct testing and answer questions about kidney disease prevention. Referrals for follow-up care will be provided to those who appear to be at risk.

Cameron Foundation solicits nominations for outstanding nonprofits to receive up to $80,000

The Cameron Foundation has announced that it is soliciting nominations for its two annual recognition award programs. The awards total $80,000 for nonprofit organizations within the Foundation’s service area of Petersburg, Colonial Heights, Hopewell and the counties of Dinwiddie, Prince George, Sussex and the portion of Chesterfield County lying south of Rt. 10. The awards will be presented annually at The Cameron Foundation’s October Grants Award Ceremony.

The Cameron Foundation awards more than $2.8 million, benefitting more than 26 nonprofits

New grant awards totaling $2,805,610 and going to 26 different nonprofit organizations in Virginia’s Tri-Cities and surrounding counties represent The Cameron Foundation’s first grant cycle of 2008. The awards were approved by the Foundation’s board during its February meeting.

Workshops on the Cameron Foundation’s grantmaking process

To area nonprofit leaders: The Cameron Foundation will be holding information workshops regarding its grantmaking process on March 20, March 27, and April 3, 2008. All workshops are offered at the Foundation’s headquarters at 24 West Old St. in Old Towne Petersburg and will be conducted by the Foundation’s Program Officers, Anne Douglas, Risha Stebbins, and Najmah Thomas. Workshops begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. and run for approximately two hours.

Cameron Foundation contributes $60K to “Timely Tutoring”

Prior posts (here and here) note that “SES” will make free tutoring available to some of Petersburg’s Title I schools (i.e., schools that receive federal funds under Title I of No Child Left Behind). Today’s P-I notes that “Timely Tutoring” will offer additional tutoring assistance, to students of Petersburg High School (not a Title I school), Walnut Hill (a Title I school, but not eligible for SES because it is accredited), and JEB Stuart Middle School (in addition to SES, as JEB Stuart is at risk of being identified for improvement for a 5th year).

This weekend, the national Algebra Project holds its annual board meeting in Petersburg, in part to kick off a multi-year partnership between the Petersburg City Public Schools, the National Algebra Project, the Young People’s Project, VSU, and the Cameron Foundation.
