ARGS student’s photographs win national award

Per the RTD, Appomattox Regional Governor’s School student Wilmer Wilson is one of two recipients of the 2008 Photography Portfolio Gold Award (awarded by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers) for his photographs on race and identity. This award includes a reception at Carnegie Hall, a show at the NYC gallery White Columns, and a $10,000 prize.

The Main Gallery at PAAL presents the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School Visual Arts “Spring Gala”.  Grades 9 through 12 will be represented with their photography, graphic design, painting, drawing and sculpture.  The exhibit highlights the best work done throughout the school year.

Gov. Kaine brings Town Hall Meeting to ARGS

Governor Timothy M. Kaine will begin a series of statewide town hall meetings on Monday, March 10 through the reconvened session, to discuss the budget and legislation passed during the 2008 General Assembly Session and take questions from the public. No sign-in is required to attend or ask questions. All town hall meetings are open to the public and media. The meeting comes to Petersburg Tuesday March 11, 6:30-8pm, at the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School, 512 W. Washington St.

HPF’s Home Tour raises funds for Appomattox Regional Governor’s School

Tuesday, Dec. 18, Ann Morriss and Patty Pritchett, co chairs of the Historic Petersburg Foundation’s 30th Annual Historic Homes Tour, presented a check to the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School (ARGS) in the amount of $1,820. The donation represented HPF’s gratitude to ARGS for its contribution to the success of this year’s tour.

Petersburg Christmas Homes Tour, Dec 9

The tour features seven historic homes decorated for the Christmas season and takes place in two of Petersburg’s historic neighborhoods: High Street and Folly Castle. Refreshments will be served at Folly Castle Inn, 323 W. Washington Street, where holiday music will be performed by the Petersburg Festival Chorus. At 5:30 p.m. the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School orchestra will perform a special concert at the school, located at 512 West Washington Street.
