Speak Up to Protect Family Involvement and Help Students with Disabilities Succeed
From the folks at JustChildren of the Legal Aid Justice Center: The Virginia Department of Education’s Draft Special Education Regulations make major cuts to parents’ rights to partner with schools. In addition to putting up barriers to family involvement, the draft regulations also create unfair rules and propose changes which will hurt the success of students with disabilities. The voices of families, teachers, students, and others who care about children with disabilities need to be heard at upcoming public hearings to ensure the draft regulations go back to the drawing board! VA’s top Republicans support 3rd Lincoln-Douglass-Mahone Dinner
Linas Kojelis, Chairman of the Petersburg Republican Committee (PRC) announced today that almost 80 guests have registered for the third annual Lincoln-Douglass-Mahone Dinner and Silent Auction, on April 4th, at 6 p.m. at Old Town Catering (9 W. Old St). The guest of honor will be Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell, the presumptive GOP nominee for the 2009 Virginia governor’s race. Read more >

Gov. Kaine brings Town Hall Meeting to ARGS
Governor Timothy M. Kaine will begin a series of statewide town hall meetings on Monday, March 10 through the reconvened session, to discuss the budget and legislation passed during the 2008 General Assembly Session and take questions from the public. No sign-in is required to attend or ask questions. All town hall meetings are open to the public and media. The meeting comes to Petersburg Tuesday March 11, 6:30-8pm, at the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School, 512 W. Washington St.
