Ross Court bungalows to get renovated thanks to LISC
The July 2008 edition of Richmond Magazine features a story on LISC and their efforts to help bring affordable housing (among other things) to Petersburg: Extreme Makeover - Petersburg’s revitalization plans take shape. Page 145.

Code enforcement Q&A: *May 12*
The Historic Poplar Lawn Association will be holding a meeting Monday May 12, 7pm, in the basement meeting room of the library at Sycamore and Marshall. In attendance will be a city representative to discuss code enforcement concerns. Neighbors are invited to bring the addresses of problematic vacant houses that they would like addressed.

Housing market analysis by Zimmerman/Volk
LISC recently retained Zimmerman/Volk Associates (who did this study for Richmond) to conduct a housing market analysis for Petersburg. They will present their results tomorrow (Wednesday) at Pathways, 5:30pm. Look for a digital copy of the report on this site soon.

Open house: Mayton Transfer Apartments
The folks at Mayton Transfer Apartments (loft living in an old restored warehouse) will be holding an open house this weekend, Friday 3-7pm and Saturday 10am-4pm. They are located at 250 E. Bank St. Look for the balloons and arrows and such.

Petersburg Community Development Corp seeks funding to build 12 homes
Per the P-I, PCDC is seeking CDBG funding from the city to help them build 12 homes (1600 sqrft, affordable housing) called Van Buren Estates near Peabody Middle School.

Mayton Transfer Lofts in the news
In addition to providing a great photo of developer Dave McCormack with the lofts behind him, today’s P-I covers the progress on the huge historic restoration project that is Mayton Transfer Lofts. It looks like the first 47 apts will be ready for move-in around March 2008.

$150m development Independence Village gets green light
From the P-I: “[Petersburg] City Council and the [Prince George] county’s Board of Supervisors held a joint public hearing last night to hear comments on the proposed Independence Village, a $150 million mixed-use development including retail and residential uses. Tony Collins, of Axis Development, which will develop the property, said he was very pleased that the process to get Independence Village approved has finally come to an end.” And in the RTD: “…When completed, the development should generate $3.7 million to $4.8 million a year in new real-estate sales and restaurant taxes for Petersburg and $744,000 to $854,000 in property and sales taxes for Prince George, the developers said. Developers plan to pay $2 million to Petersburg to widen South Crater Road and will spend $1.5 million on water and sewer improvements, in addition to several other expenses. They said they expected the project would generate more traffic on South Crater Road. The project would likely mean between 159 and 167 more students for Petersburg and Prince George schools. …” Read more >

Petersburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority to begin issuing Late Fee refunds
Approximately 548 current and former public housing tenants of the Petersburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority will start receiving credits and/or refunds in December for late fees that were charged to them beginning in February, 2002. The average reimbursement per resident will be about $153. Read more >

on the $12m Mayton Transfer Lofts project
Mayton Transfer Lofts is the warehouse conversion project being developed by Dave McCormack and Axis Development at 4th and Bank in Petersburg, situated a few blocks from I-95 and a few blocks from the Appomattox River. Today’s RTD presents an interview with Dave, and notes among other things that phase 1 of the project (5 condos and 47 apartments) should be completed and ready for occupancy in February, when phase 2 (64 apartments) will begin.
