Police host 2nd Community Problem Solving Workshop
Petersburg Bureau of Police will host its second Community Problem Solving Workshop on September 27, 2008 at Vernon Johns Elementary School from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Participants are encouraged to register by September 17 because breakfast and lunch will be provided at no cost to workshop attendees. This session will specifically target the following neighborhoods: Blandford, Crater Road, Battlefield Park, Walnut Hill, Camelot, Lakewood Estates, Ramblewood, Whitehill Drive, East Walnut Hill, and County Drive. Police continue to address ‘public nuisances’; arrest suspect in double shooting

1) Police say stores too dangerous — too dangerous for ABC agents to do their work. In a nutshell, the article summaries recent police efforts in relation to ‘public nuisances,’ in this case involving 3 convenience stores and 2 hotels.

Recent shootings — how many is that?
Petersburg has seen several shootings in the last week or so. Tpday’s P-I has an article that summarizes the several incidents, beginning as follows: “No suspects have been identified in two violent episodes over the weekend which left two people injured and a third man dead. The weekend violence comes a week after a triple shooting which still has not yielded suspects or arrests.”

Petersburg Bureau of Police Basketball Benefit
Petersburg Bureau of Police and Allusions Barber Shop will host a Benefit Basketball Game on Saturday July 19, 2008, 5:00 PM at Petersburg High School Gym. There will be a meeting with Petersburg Police Chief John Dixon III on how the citizens can assist the police towards a safer community. The meeting will be July 8, 6:00pm at Christ & Grace Episcopal Church, 1545 S. Sycamore Street, upstairs in the annex.

Police and faith-based community sponsor summer enrichment program
This summer the Petersburg police together with the local faith-based community will sponsor a Summer Enrichment Program that runs from June 23 to August 8: “While we hope to provide an opportunity for those kids who might not otherwise have the opportunity to take advantage of an organized summer camp, the program is open to all Petersburg residents between the ages of eight and eighteen. Comcast to provide profiles on region’s “Most Wanted”
The Central Virginia Most Wanted project, a coalition of nine Metro Richmond law enforcement agencies and organizations, and Comcast recently announced the launch of Police Blotter ON DEMAND, a public service initiative that will give area residents the opportunity to help the police locate fugitives from justice and provide information or tips on persons in question.
