Read·y for Right: A Petersburg Story

Coming October 17 to Sycamore Rouge: Read-y for Right, an original play by kb saine about the first Civil Rights Protest in Petersburg, VA, when the Petersburg Public Library became the center of the struggle for desegregation. Led by Rev. Wyatt Tee Walker, protesters walked into the whites-only section of the library and sat down to read. Their determination, their willingness to go to jail, and their courage to fight for their rights drive this story home.
The show will run October 17-November 8, Friday/Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 4pm. Tickets $18-$22. Sycamore Rouge is located at 21 W. Old St., Petersburg.

This factual accounting of a landmark event in our city, retold and directed by one of our own, is not to be missed by anybody who feels a connection to Petersburg and its history. The documentary and its presentation by a cast that includes many familiar members of our community, is, in my opinion, among the best to grace the stage of Sycamore Rouge. The opening night’s performance was outstanding!
DON’T MISS AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE PART OF THE AUDIENCE!
