2) Peabody teacher wins Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year (cont.)

Peabody Middle School in Petersburg is proud to have one of its staff members chosen as the Petersburg Wal-Mart Location 2160’s Teacher of the Year.

Clarence Grayson Jr. was selected from 43 nominees, for his devotion to his students, according to Angel Allen, Community Involvement Coordinator at the Petersburg Wal-Mart. Peabody and Wal-Mart kept the announcement a surprise, gathering the faculty of the school together in the school library for a meeting and then revealing the award, to a burst of applause from his colleagues.

“Mr. Grayson is a dedicated and motivating teacher. He mentors students on weekends and provides job skills and guidance. He believes in his students,” Allen said.

As part of the award, Mr. Grayson received a $100 gift card and Peabody received a $1,000 educational grant in his name.

Wal-Mart has recognized more than 30,000 teachers nationwide with its Teacher of the Year award, since launching the program in 1995; and nearly $5 million to those award winners.
