    More details:

Battersea Inc., in conjunction with the City of Petersburg, will host an appraisal fair on the lawn of the 18th-century Battersea mansion in Petersburg, VA on Saturday, September 27th from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The public is encouraged to bring clocks, pocket watches, silver, porcelain, stoneware, military related items from the Revolutionary War through WWII, art, dolls, sports memorabilia and any other antiques they would like appraised. For furniture items too large to transport, the public is encouraged to bring multiple photographs with special attention to images of the feet, crown molding, back and any areas showing damage or restoration.

On hand for the event will be a number of experts in the antiques field, including Dr. William D. Irvin, lead appraiser at Motley’s Auction and Realty group, who will be able to identify and value a wide range of items and share his vast knowledge gained from years of research and experience. Noted historian and Civil War artifact authority Benjamin Greenbaum will be specializing in swords, firearms and other militaria from all wars and conflicts. Darrell Olgers, vice-president of Motley’s Auction & Realty Group’s Antique & Estate division and collector of early furniture, clocks and pocket watches, will also be in attendance. He hopes people will dig out grandpa’s old railroad watch–even if it is not running—and any old clocks. Grandfather clocks too big to transport can be represented by detailed photos.

A written description and analysis of the items appraised will be available. Food and period craft vendors will be on hand. All funds raised through this appraisal fair will go toward the conservation of Historic Battersea. Requested donations for the appraisal are $8 for the first item and $5 for the second item. For more information please email Battersea Inc. at BatterseaInc@gmail.com or call (804) 732-9882.

To reach Battersea, take the Washington Street exit off I-95 and continue west-bound on Washington Street. Immediately after West Street turn right onto Battersea Lane.
