As many have stated, the city did not have to spend the 6 figure dollar amount to verify what the citizens of Petersburg have been saying for years. Now that our money is spent, we the citizens of Petersburg have to make some serious decisions and commitments.
This is a blessing and a open door to take Petersburg out of the Mayberry way of life and bring it current to the 21st century.
Many folks have talked about disbanding the present form of government and city council has igored it for obvious reasons. A government that the people elect, not the friends of whomever is liked best on council. To move this city forward the citizen have to change this present form of government to an elected instead of appointed system. We the citizens are working so hard, spend so much money to keep the system the way it is.
What do you think? But more importantly let’s discuss the Pros & Con’s.
I think before attending the City Council meetings with pitch forks and torches, it should be put to them that they can either be a part of and lead the change needed to fix the cities problems or they can obstruct and be swept out of office come election time. One or the other must happen.
It’s clear that we have reached a tipping point where the status quo is not acceptable to a great many people.
The political watch word lately is “change” and in this local venue it is actually needed.
Petersburg should explore the feasibility of terminating its independent city status & joining either Prince George or Dinwiddie County. County resources would be a big boost to economic & social development. It would put an end to Petersburg’s chronic stagnation.
