Board of Education meeting; New teachers welcomed to PCPS

1) The Board of Education of the Petersburg City Public Schools will attend its annual VSBA School Board Development Seminar for the upcoming 2008-2009 school year, Thursday, August 28, 2008, at the Charlottesville Omni (Wilson Room), Charlottesville, VA, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The Petersburg City Public Schools welcomed new teachers into its family on Monday, August 18, with a reception at Petersburg High School, introduction to the district administrators, and some intensive training.

Those teachers include some who are completely new to the district, and others who are returning “home” after working elsewhere in Virginia.

All will be warmly welcomed as Petersburg prepares for the 2008-2009 school year.

“We look forward to working with you,” said Ken Pritchett, Chairman of the Board of the Petersburg City Public Schools.

“I’m glad that you chose us and we chose you,” said Dr. Alvera Parrish, Assistant Superintendent of the Petersburg City Public Schools.

The district goal this year is to support acts of teaching and learning, said Dr. James M. Victory, Superintendent of Schools, and the district administration will work closely with all its teachers to make that happen.

“Everything that we do is to support you to be successful, which translates to success for the children,” Dr. Victory said.

That support system includes mentors, an open-door policy for meeting with administrators, and strong encouragement for teachers to get their course work completed in a timely manner, he said.
