Dog park? - productive meeting with the Planning Dept.

We had a first meeting with Mr. Muse of the Planning Dept. this morning, a summary of which can be found at the Petersburg Dog Park Yahoo group, here. Chuck and I will be driving around to look at/take photos of several sites that were discussed this weekend. Does anyone want to join us? We will also need to survey the community to get a sense of potential demand (how many people might use a dog park, how often, with how many dogs), so that we can figure out likely parking and dog-pen size requirements. If you are interested in helping, please go to the Yahoo group to discuss.

Hm… How about a name for a local doggy park? Any creatives got some ideas to toss out there for chewing on?

Count us (and our three dogs) in!

How often would we use it? Frequently, possibly daily depending on location.

Wego all the way to Rockwood Park or Barker Field in Richmond to socialize the pups and let them run free.

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe soon we’ll get a poll thingy working on this site to help evaluate the extent of demand. Meanwhile, words here work. :-)

Re: name, ‘Bark Park’ was suggested on the Yahoo group. In keeping with the alliteration (?), I offer: Fido Field (ok, maybe not — songwriting will not be in my future, what can I say).

There is also a dog park being planned for a downtown site. The model that is being used for the design is the one in Richmond in the Forest Hill neighborhood. Maybe ideas could be shared.

Well by all means, put them in touch with us!

Hey all. I told a resident about the possibility of a dog park and he suggested that the (city-owned) parking-lot thing on north jefferson st. be used.

It’s big advantage is that it is large, and has a big, solid fence ALREADY around it.

Cons: in a residential neighborhood, which is not the best. The litter is pretty bad around there.

Proximity to traffic is another concern. Which has been leading us to favor some areas in southern Petersburg that are not so developed.

Though existing fencing is an attractive feature. :-) Will drive by to check the space you are referring to.
