thanks for this addition to the site–it is a much needed service!
It’s a step. Will be a happy day when crime incident data are made publicly available.
checked out the police blotter on the Progress-Index site and had LOTS of information….just all from last month….I would seriously like to know about the break-in & robbery on Matoax since…it’s only 1 street over =(
re: neighborhood watch, I’ve had a request in for all crime incidents over the last 3 months b/t Johnson, Crater, North and South. Figured it might be handy to know what, exactly, we’d be watching for. Was told I’ve have the data within the week, but that week was a few weeks ago.
Chief Dixon: this is one area that is seriously in need of help. If the community is to be a partner of the PD, being its eyes and ears, the PD needs to be able to provide data upon request to interested citizens within a week, if not within one day.
Maybe Chief Dixon can find out who/how Richmond was able to implement this:
http://www.ci.richmond.va.us/departments/police/Crime_Incident_Info.aspx
We used that alot in Woodland Heights to know what was going on.
No doubt, being able to see what happened on what date at what address can help folks understand what’s going on around them, and in turn to figure out how to mitigate particular as opposed to general risks. And if this data could be filtered by Ward, neighborhood, etc., so much the better.
Especially given his comments regarding “Focused Law Enforcement” allocating resources and manpower to those areas that need it the most. That would also allow Chief Dixon, Council, the Citizens, et all to see EXACTLY where problem/opportunity areas are.
Requested data received. :-)
