Flex your vocals, see if you can win the “STELLA!” calling contest
Sycamore Rouge will host a “STELLA!” Calling Contest/FUNdraiser at the upcoming Friday for the Arts, July 11 at 8pm. The winner will receive two tickets to the opening night of A Streetcar Named Desire (which will be July 18)! The entry fee to participate in the contest is $10.
Not familiar with the Marlon Brando version? Check this:
From the SR folks:
Join us this Friday for the Arts! in our courtyard. We’ll invite all comers (who pay a $10 entry fee) to show us their best Marlon Brando impersonation in A Streetcar Named Desire’s most famous scene. Our own Stella, Angie Shipley, will be on the roof of Sycamore Rouge, and all contestants will try to bring her down with their best “STELLA!” call.
Our winner will be determined by audience response, and will win 2 tickets to the Opening Night of Sycamore Rouge’s production of A Streetcar Named Desire! Call kb at 804-957-5707 x106 to sign up for the contest, or try your luck by entering by 7:45 on the 11th!
seriously… who would have known this would turn into something so big? people are entering their kids, their dogs, themselves… we’ve gotten a request for a sprinkler to recreate the “rain” effect, people are planning to rip off their shirts for Stella… if you’re not going to enter, at least make sure you’re here to watch!

This is officially the coolest PR thing Sycamore Rouge has ever done. It is so nice to see the place thriving, especially after the whole heated discussion with the news item last time. This is going to be so fun!
I had the pleasure of practicing my Stella call while meeting the cast at KB’s house. Be warned—the competition will tough, especially from some of the women in the group.
I’m better at the “contender/bum” speech.
I hope I can be there to watch though.
I thought from the begining that Streetcar was a good thing to put on.
It’s a well-loved story.
I hope Stella wannabes are out in full force tonight!
Rumor has it TV cameras will be on hand to record the wailing … what a great way to express “Petersburg angst” in a positive way and to share some of our sense of community!
Great to hear -er read it!
I’m in Witicha, KS, so can’t watch :(
Great promo.
