While the local fire dept. offers free fire alarms and fire alarm testing, I think I read or heard a story some time ago that some people are disinclined to invite the fire dept. into their homes.
I wonder: does there exist a program whereby, for example, volunteers with a church group can get trained to perform fire alarm installs/tests, and then coordinate to conduct installs/tests for area residents? I’m not sure this can be done; just brainstorming/wondering out loud.

Didn’t the volunteers with the Tri Cities Work Camp recently go around checking existing fire detectors and installing one’s where they did not exist?
Also - if you have a home alarm, some companies (we have Vector) offer a smoke, carbon monoxide monitoring service too. I think it was built into the cost of our monthly monitoring fee ($29) so ummm yeah….it’s a nice added feature if your company has it.
This reminds me….I need to check my parents smoke detectors. They usually don’t think about those things.
An idea shared with me once is to change alarm batteries twice each year, when you change the clocks forward/back. Seems like a handy jog-the-memory trick!
