Centre Hill Museum to hold Open House Friday, June 13

Bring your family to Centre Hill Museum on Friday, June 13 for an evening of fun and games. The Museum will be open from 6pm to 10pm. Activity guides will be distributed to children between the ages of six to eleven. The guides feature educational and creative activities related to Centre Hill’€™s rich history. As an added bonus, adults will have one of the last chances to view the current exhibition, Fashionably Dressed at Centre Hill Mansion: Attire from the 1820s to the Early 1900s before the exhibit closes on July 6.

The event is a special feature of June’s city-wide Friday for the Arts! celebration. Fort Lee soldiers and their families are especially welcome as part of June’€™s Friday for the Fort! theme. Admission is free for everyone.

Centre Hill is located at 1 Centre Hill Ave. in Petersburg. For more information call (804) 733-2427. Parking is available in the circle in front of the house and in the parking lot located on the north side of the museum.

Built in 1823 by the Bolling family, one of the wealthiest and most socially prominent families in Petersburg, Centre Hill provides examples of Federal, Greek Revival and Colonial Revival architectural styles. The house was the site of two Presidential visits. Abraham Lincoln met with Union troops occupying the house in April 1865. A reception was held at the residence for President Taft in May 1909. Today, Centre Hill is owned by the City of Petersburg and operates as an historic house museum.
