1) Westview Early Childhood students celebrate a year of learning

The Westview Early Childhood Education Center in Petersburg prepares students for a lifetime of learning. The Center houses both the Headstart and Pre-K programs. To celebrate the completion of a busy year, Westview students recently enjoyed a Field Day, with Hula Hoops, tricycle races,
team games and other entertainment.

2) Say cheese (and sauce and pepperoni) – school gets pre-SOL boost

In April, the Domino’s Pizza franchise at 2130 E. Washington St. showed Walnut Hill Elementary School (WHES) students in Petersburg that they really do deliver.

Domino’s assistant manager, Sara Boord, and day driver, Veronica Birt, delivered more than 200 personal pizzas to Walnut Hill’s kindergarten and first grade students. Boord said that she did this “to show support for our future.” Her team spent several hours that morning in preparing the pizzas.

The students in the kindergarten and first grade classes enjoyed this afternoon snack very much. They also received a variety of Domino’s pencils, balloons and rub-on tattoos.

3) Petersburg City Public Schools Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Revue on Tuesday

The Petersburg City Public Schools Gifted and Talented Education (GATE ) Department invites the public and media representatives to the 2008 GATE Revue. This will be a chance to see and hear what our gifted students have done in the school district this year.

Past revues have included student science projects and even musical performances — a show and tell evening. Each school will have its own section for display.

The Revue begins at 6 p.m., Tuesday, June 3 and will be held at Petersburg High School. Dr. James M. Victory, Superintendent of Petersburg City Public Schools, will be the guest speaker.

For more information, contact Suzanne Vaughan, Director of Gifted and Talented Education, at 862-7044.
