A couple of announcements from members of Council and the City Manager:
* note that the Clerk of Council is on medical leave; please call the City Manager’s office with your questions typically directed to the Clerk until further notice.
* there will be a joint City Council/School work session in relation to their proposed budgets on May 9, 6pm, at Union Train Station. This meeting is open to the public, but is a work session.
* there will be a public hearing May 13, 8pm, at Vernon Johns Middle School in relation to… the budget? (I didn’t hear those details so well… will confirm and rally back…)
Also — Another statement given for informational purposes relates to the rental inspection program.
Apparently the city has advertised for a rental inspection officer three times. It was explained that in each case, the applicant being considered did not pass the background check, and that they are continuing to work to fill the position.
P-I coverage.

I remember seeing this in the budget and I was surprised that, given the proportion of rental properties in the city, they only listed one F/T person. If they had more staff, would that maybe mean absentee landlords (read as slum lords) might be made to keep their “investment property” looking better?
Side note - don’t remember seeing that posting - I frequent the jobs list a lot hoping I can find something in “my town” that would allow me to be closer to home and pay me the same…..no such luck so far =(
From Councilman Pritchett: The May 13 meeting will be to pass the city portion of the school budget.
Sweet!!!
PetersburgTV has made available a recording of this City Council meeting — a great resource for those who could not attend but want to stay informed. May they continue to make future public Council meetings available in full on an ongoing basis.
I WOULD SIMPLY LIKE TO KNOW IF THE POLICE OFFICERS ARE GOING TO GET ANY KIND OF RAISE, OR CONTINUE TO BE VALUED MORE ELSEWHERE?
Hm… just got an email noting that PetersburgTV cut the footage back to just the public comments period. Bummer.
