Mass Meeting of the Petersburg Republican Party, May 5

From Linas Kojelis: As Chairman of the Petersburg Republican Committee of the Republican Party of Virginia, and pursuant to the Plan of Organization and as recommended and directed by the Committee, I, Linas Kojelis, do hereby issue this call for a Mass Meeting to be held at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, 380 E. Washington Street, Petersburg, VA 23803, starting at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2008, for the following purposes:

1. electing a Chairman of the Petersburg Republican Committee;

2. electing up to 7 Delegates and 28 Alternates to the Fourth Congressional District Republican Convention, to be held on May 17, 2008 at Windsor High School, 24 Church Street, Windsor, VA 23487 beginning at 10:00 a.m., with registration beginning at 9:00 a.m. for the purposes of (1) electing a chairman, (2) electing three 4th District members to the Republican State Central Committee; (3) electing one Presidential Elector; (4) electing three delegates and an equal number of alternates to Republican National Convention to be held in Minneapolis-St. Paul, September 1-3, 2008 for the purpose of nominating candidates for President and Vice President of the United States and for the transaction of such other business as may properly come before the convention;

3. electing up to 14 Delegates and 56 Alternates to the State Convention of the Republican Party, to be held on May 30 and 31 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, 403 North Third Street, Richmond City, starting at 2:00 p.m. for the purpose of nominating a candidate for US Senate, electing a State Chairman; nominating a National Committeeman and Committeewoman; nominating two At-Large Presidential Electors; and electing 27 Delegates and 27 Alternates to the Republican National Convention;

4. and for the transaction of other such business as may properly come before the mass meeting.

Qualifications for Participation: All legal and qualified voters of Petersburg City under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and who, if requested, express in open meeting either orally or in writing as may be required, their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the ensuing election, may participate as members of the Republican Party of Virginia in its mass meetings, party canvasses, conventions or primaries encompassing their respective election districts.

Voters may be required to produce personal identification such as a valid driver’s license or voter registration card.

Candidate Filing Requirements: Candidates for election as a Delegate or Alternate to either the District or State Convention, or for election as Unit Chairman of the Petersburg Republican Committee, shall file a written statement by mail to the Petersburg Republican Committee, P.O. Box 748, Petersburg, VA 23804 or in person to Susan Huysman, 1 Surry Lane, Petersburg, VA 23803, which must be received not later than 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2008. Candidates for PRC chairman must submit written notice of their intent and pay a $25 filing fee, with check made out to PRC and mailed or delivered to the addresses as above. Candidate forms for Delegate or Alternate to either the District or State Conventions and other information are online at www.gopetersburg.org or contact Patrick Washington via email or at 721-9382.

Registration Fee: There will be no registration fee to participate in the mass meeting. There will be a voluntary registration fee of $5 of each voter at the mass meeting to help defray expenses. There is a voluntary registration fee of $35 for the State Convention and $15 for the District Convention. Voluntary fees are requested to be paid at the time of filing for election as a Delegate for each respective convention, payable to Petersburg Republican Committee or PRC.

    The Kool-aid will be passed out promptly following elections.

    No seriously, anything with “Mass” in the title is going to be bad. (Weddings, graves, killings, that thing growing on your liver)

    BTW: Are there even 60 republicans in Petersburg to fill number 3?
