1st Annual Park Day at Petersburg National Battlefield Park
Petersburg National Battlefield in cooperation with the Civil War Preservation Trust will be holding the first annual Park Day in the Battlefield on Saturday April 5. This is a chance to take part in some volunteer work at the Battlefield. Participants should meet at the Visitor Center parking lot at 9:00am, and be sure to bring appropriate clothing for the weather, a pair of gloves, and lunch. Activities will include trash pick-up and also some trail work.
Folks interested in participating should contact Richard E. Hotchkiss, Park Ranger & Volunteer Cooordinator of Petersburg National Battlefield at 732-3966, ext. 113.

As an JROTC Instructor I would like to take some cadets out to do some relic hunting or at least give them the feeling of involvement in finding our past. Is there anyhwere in Va that will allow us to search for some history? We will not be able to attend the 5 April Clean-up, because we will be competing at Fort Picket. But please write me and keep us in mind. We would love to come out and help next time. This will also count as a community service project for our cadets at Prince George HS. Thank you for your time. By the way, my wife and I enjoyed the trails recently.
I copy/paste a comment that was lost as part of yesterday’s site maintenance:

John Marler, of the Appomattox Touring Company, (http://www.appomattoxtours.com/) is probably the person to talk to. I’m sure he can advise you about relics and might be a good one to give a talk to your group.
