Our taxes went up 10% too. I could be wrong, but had the impression that this guy was PRO raising taxes, at least on people like myself (I could be wrong.) Since he’s so anti tax hike on pocahontas (he owns a lot of land), maybe he’d like to join hands with me to have a PETERSBURG-WIDE reduction in the tax RATE, since that would be the only acrooss the board fair thing to do.
Hey Shawn (et al.) — after some back and forth with Shay, I’m now able to link to specific clips on PetersburgTV — look for more head’s up their direction here in the future.
I loathe that man. Sorry, when someone has the unmitigated gall to stand on camera (re: his interview with, I believe, channel 12) and say there was no way the city would be able to spend all that money ($4 million) to improve things like the roads/streets in Petersburg….uggggg I guess he doesn’t often ride around his own ward, huh?
Hmmm is it true that a company Ken is very closely tied to sells/leases golf equipment?
I had found something I posted on PetersburgVibe about the tax rate for the City of Petersburg being one of, if not the, highest in the state. That floored me given that there are essentially no services to speak of for said taxes.
*shrug* I just want someone to keep the streets clean…..is there not a ‘department of public works’ type thing in P’Burg?
Eh I know I’ll start a ‘Pick-Up Petersburg’ campaign!! (Maybe I should trade mark that =P)

I suspect the problem is few people who are not on the dole means you have to have a higher tax rate per person to run the city.
All the new development that is coming on line in the next few years will help a lot. This place feels like it’s at a tipping point… we all just need to keep shoving together in the right direction.

You are exactly right tg.
One other thing: the TOTAL budget of the city has an even sadder story. A lot of the money the city spends comes from OUTSIDE the city and must be spent where it was mandated. Often to keep the poor dependant.
no comment on dogwood trace.
But I’d like to comment about “the mayor of pocahontas”
