Willie Noise, 1508 Circle Drive, stated that he is against this proposal. He stated that he thinks that the
City should hold on to it and get somebody in the City to give some jobs to the people in the City. He stated
that they have too many of these already built buildings for this being converted. He stated that it seems like a
loop in this when they say commercial residential and tap on other things like office space.
Richard Stewart, 129 Rolfe Street, stated that he is in opposition of Mr. Noise. He stated that this is a
good thing that the City is doing. He stated that the old building is sitting around and that the City needs to do
something. He stated god bless the developer because that is a tough neighborhood. He asked that if they
dispose of the property what will the estimate price or revenue would come from this.
Mr. Jones stated that S. S. Construction is offering the City $1, 550,000 for the purchase of the
property. He stated that the City has the property assessed at $1, 573,000. He stated that they are offering
the City $1,550,000 to purchase the building and the parking lot. He stated that as far as the revenue on it is
going to be the final assessment by the City Assessor.
Thank goodness Mr. Stewart has some sense! Mr. Noise should know, besides the fact that a government can only “create jobs” by lowering taxes, that if the project is sucessful, it helps the poor (more housing supply, more tax revenue) and if it fails through not enough demand from middle-income tenants — it will become low income housing. The poor win either way.
But if Mr. Steward is successful in getting free roofs from the city, I hope someone will remember that *I* have a roof that could use some paint too. Can we pressure the govt to paint *my* roof?
Whoops!! I have totally no idea how this ended up on this thread!! I apologize to all, and am delighted Paper with Style is expanding!
I was on the “city council” thread when I posted the above.
