Ft. Lee culinary competition a hit with high schoolers
An ice sculpture of a spaceman, chocolate figures adorning elaborate displays by culinary teams from around the world, flames shooting from skillets manned by teams of chefs and specialists all came together as part of the final culinary competition at the field house on the post of Fort Lee.
Not lost in the excitement were scores of high school groups attending the event. Cumberland High School students cheered with excitement and were delighted to learn that the United States military is not just about fighting wars, but is a place where skills and talents can be developed and executed to a professional standard to serve others in times of peace.
One teacher stated, “I brought my students here to be exposed to some of what military life has to offer them, to show them an alternative to street life, and to give them hope for a better future for themselves and this country.” Sounds like a good recipe for success.

When I was in the air force I noticed that the best chow we ever had was when it was our own military guys in the kitchen. They take pride in their work.
I’ve always wanted to check out one of these competitions…. I wish my waistline could stand it!
