Auditions for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
Sycamore Rouge is holding auditions on Saturday, Jan. 12 from 11am-5pm for its upcoming production of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom by August Wilson and directed by Ronal Stepney.
The production will run Feb. 15-March 8, with shows on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Performers may be asked to perform up to 2 weekday morning matinees. All roles are paid on a variable scale. Sycamore Rouge is seeking 5 black males (ages mid 20’s-60’s), 2 white males (mid 40’s-60’s), and 2 black females.
Those auditioning should prepare 1 dramatic, contemporary monologue. Performers who can play a musical instrument are heavily encouraged to audition, and may be asked to display their ability. Auditioning females should prepare 30 seconds of a classic blues song to be sung without music.
