HPF’s Home Tour raises funds for Appomattox Regional Governor’s School
Tuesday, Dec. 18, Ann Morriss and Patty Pritchett, co chairs of the Historic Petersburg Foundation’s 30th Annual Historic Homes Tour, presented a check to the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School (ARGS) in the amount of $1,820. The donation represented HPF’s gratitude to ARGS for its contribution to the success of this year’s tour.
The donation was accepted by Larry Joyner, Assistant Director, ARGS. It is earmarked for the school’s music program, whose goal is to create and maintain an educational environment for gifted instrumental and vocal students that maximize the artistic talent of each student. Additionally, the ARGS Music Department supports the community by providing opportunities to appreciate and enjoy the musical arts at ARGS.
The contribution represents $5 from each $25 ticket sale for the Homes Tour, which took place December 9. This year the tour included eight historic homes decorated for the Christmas season in both the High Street and Folly Castle historic neighborhoods, as well as music performed by the Petersburg Festival Chorus and an evening concert by the ARGS orchestra.
“The executive board voted enthusiastically to showcase and support the incredible talent at the Governor’s School, while we were showcasing historic homes in the same neighborhood less than a block away,” said David Primeaux, HPF President. “The evening concert they performed was a wonderful addition to the tour and an excellent way to raise awareness about the terrific work this great school does and about the extraordinary talent of its gifted students.”
The ARGS building, the former and once-abandoned Petersburg High School building, is also a successful example of the type of architectural preservation and return to productivity that HPF helps foster within the City of Petersburg.
