AP Hill Elementary School, affected by fire tragedies, is determined to be proactive
AP Hill Elementary School in Petersburg, where three students attended who died in two house fires this year, is determined to do everything possible to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.
The schoolÔø?s Special Resource Team, led by AP Hill music teacher Robert Gray, is training students on how to deal with fire and smoke in a low visibility environment; how to escape from a critical situation; and how to draw a fire escape plan. Gray has survived two house fires and tells his story of proper planning to prevent loss of life.
The school is also working hard to ensure that every student has a working smoke detector in his or her home. Smoke detectors have been passed around in classes and the students have learned how to test them. Notices have been sent to parents, for them to sign, indicating whether or not they have working smoke detectors, and the school has pledged to help families without detectors to obtain them.
Holiday cheer from Vernon Johns Middle School
Wounded soldiers at Walter Reed VA Hospital will receive a little holiday comfort, thanks to the students of Jacqueline BullockÔø?s class at Vernon Johns Middle School in Petersburg. The students made Christmas cards for the soldiers this month.
Parents attend one-on-one report card pick-up event at Peabody Middle School
Seventh grade teachers at Peabody Middle School gathered grade books, notes, and class work to prepare for the recent successful parent report card pick-up day. The parents came in one by one and were able to meet all of the teachers at the same time.

What a fantastic idea! Good forward progress PPS!
