Algebra Project comes to Petersburg (and Dr. Robert Moses, Danny Glover come too)
This weekend, the national Algebra Project holds its annual board meeting in Petersburg, in part to kick off a multi-year partnership between the Petersburg City Public Schools, the National Algebra Project, the Young People’s Project, VSU, and the Cameron Foundation.
The City of Petersburg and the Petersburg Schools are hosting a reception at Vernon Johns Middle School Friday, December 7, from 5pm - 7pm. There will be a short program, including Dr. Oliver Hill from VSU and the Algebra Project, and the Superintendent of PCPS, Dr. James
Victory, followed by informal conversations where we hope many of you will get to know the Algebra Project national board members, including its founder, Dr. Robert Moses.
On Saturday, Dec. 8, from 9am-12 noon, SAVY (Chaired by Petersburg’s assistant City Manager, Mr. Eric Campbell) will kick off a rally to inform the wider community about this important partnership. There will be presentations from PCPS-VSU’s Young People’s Project initiative, an art show, a step show performed by several VSU greek organizations, and Algebra Project board member Danny Glover will also speak.
For more information, contact Dr. Wesley Hogan, Dept. of History & Philosophy and Co-Director, Institute for the Study of Race Relations, VSU, or Oliver Hill.
