A statement from PPS:
At approximately 1 a.m. today, a house fire in Petersburg claimed three lives and left a third person injured. Two of those killed were students in the Petersburg City Public Schools and the injured survivor was a district employee.
We have suffered a great loss today in the Petersburg City Public Schools and we are deeply saddened. We ask everyone in our district to please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.
We have crisis intervention counselors on site at our schools and Dr. Victory, our superintendent, is meeting with them. We are going to be as available as possible to meet the needs of both the children and the staff, to get them through this tough time.
