Connect Southside hosts “The Impact of Fort Lee’s Growth on the Local Nonprofit Sector: A Community Conversation”
Connect Southside will present an open forum December 6, 2-4pm, at Tabernacle Community Life Center in Petersburg to discuss the impact of Fort Lee’s growth on local and regional nonprofit services.
At this free community conversation, private and public sector leaders will discuss collaborations and response to the impact of the base expansion. “Smart communities talk about change, anticipate it and plan for it,” said Nancy Stutts, founder of Connect Network, which houses Connect Southside. “That’s our purpose with this event, to bring people together to talk about challenges and opportunities.”

Connect Southside is a free, online communications network designed to strengthen communities by connecting citizens to information, resources and one another to work together for the greater good. Connect Southside has already proven to be a valuable resource to area nonprofit organizations, who often rely on the site to access research and data, post announcements and events, and find additional funding opportunities. In fact, the email communication group has already grown from 100 people to more than 700 participants. Connect Southside is part of Connect Network, which has created similar sites for the Richmond and Rappahannock regions. The Connect Network is part of The Community Foundation and the Partnership for Nonprofit Excellence, and is coordinated in partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University.
“The Impact of Fort LeeÔø?s Growth on the Local Nonprofit Sector: A Community Conversation” will take place on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at the Tabernacle Community Life Center, 444 Halifax St. in Petersburg. The event will begin at 2 p.m. with networking. Presentations and discussion are set for 2:30 to 4 p.m. Seating is limited.
