Fall color in Poplar Lawn — UPDATED — more pics!

Star in Poplar Lawn

Update: After I posted a few photos that I took while out and about today, Ron Moring shared some of his photos from this past weekend. The colors in his photos have such WOW to them that I have bounced my pics to the end of the line. Thanks for sharing Ron!

Loved the Wow! effect when I just checked the PPN for this evening. I expect that you found this wonderful Central Park opportunity this week. This happens to be the neighborhood that I lived in (feel very privileged now) for my first 17 years, not very far from Sycamore on the first block of Liberty. I have a lifelong appreciation of the fall colors, smells, feels, imaginations, friendships, family, horizons and history of Poplar Lawn. May I be so sharing as to send you pictures that I took on Sunday afternoon. I was headed out Sycamore St. and once again realized the beauty within that natural oasis. So, with camera in hand, I took a quiet stroll around my childhood daycare center of the ‘fifties’.

What a nice coincidence. And what a lovely storied park!

From the early splashes in the cement pool, yes, there was water in that center area that is now filled in and planted, to learning bicycle riding, playing Bible School team ball games, kicking the millions of leaves, watching the voters cast their ballots in the gardener’s house, drinking from the natural stream fountains, rolling down those back hills, and eventually exploring the mysteries of Lieutenant Run as it flows east then north to the Appomattox. Yes, you’ve discovered a treasure nestled in the heart of this beautiful old town. May I be the first to welcome you.

These colors are beautiful and missed by those of us who are Virginians and no longer reside in this beautiful state. Now, I feel I have had a taste of fall in my beautiful state. Thanks Ron…

Ron — have you thought about collecting your photos of various Petersburg landscapes/events and publishing them? I’d buy that book!

Thanks! I know that I enjoy looking at them, and I certainly appreciate the comments of others who find them enjoyable. But even better for me is ‘being’ here. So my invitation stands: Visit Petersburg now to explore the treasures of her past, the diversity of her history, the energy of the present and the promise of her future.
I salute all residents, visitors and photographers who have seen the beauty in each of our communities, and are anxious to share their story. The ‘book’ will indeed be very large. -Ron
