on the $12m Mayton Transfer Lofts project
Mayton Transfer Lofts is the warehouse conversion project being developed by Dave McCormack and Axis Development at 4th and Bank in Petersburg, situated a few blocks from I-95 and a few blocks from the Appomattox River. Today’s RTD presents an interview with Dave, and notes among other things that phase 1 of the project (5 condos and 47 apartments) should be completed and ready for occupancy in February, when phase 2 (64 apartments) will begin.

Dave has always seemed like a great guy to me. Interesting, yet thouroughly unpretentious. I’m glad to know he found such a strong partner for such an ambitious project.
Interesting to me is that work has already begun on the dunlop street warehouse. I was wrong to think the south street lofts a bit of insanity, but am still skeptical that folks will want to rent that much farther into the ghetto to dunlop. Mccormick’s idea seems safer as it it is not really in a ghetto at all, but rather a quiet area devoid of ANY people — but right next to 95. Tabula rasa. A few dead bodies still turn up in the weeds in the dunlop area. Maybe this will change sooner than I think…
