ìAlex Zanî to energize Vernon Johns students
Author, entertainer, television producer and motivational speaker Alex-Zan will visit Vernon Johns Middle School on Monday, Oct. 29 at 8:30 a.m. Recognized as one of 12 blacks to first desegregate Virginia Public Schools, Mr. Zan now works as a ìperforming teacher,î helping children to develop their self-worth. His theme at Vernon Johns will be ìStaying in the Game, Thinking Right, Doing Right and Being Right.î
ìOur students need to hear from positive leadership in the community. He is a role model for our students. They will get to see a person who has done a lot,î said Evelyn Britton, a guidance counselor at Vernon Johns.
The visit is being coordinated by Gear-Up (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs), which aims to help more students go on to higher education.
