RTD reports on planned changes for Petersburg Public Schools
In today’s RTD: “Over the next few years, Superintendent James M. Victory said, residents should notice: elementary school classrooms with a different feel; middle school children doing math that some high school students now miss out on; guidance counselors spending more time with high school freshmen; and more advanced-placement classes in high school.”
More specific details/explanations (e.g., Algrebra I will be required before students complete middle school; early career counseling efforts will be expanded, etc.) are given in the article.
The article concludes: “Victory said he expects to put the new programs in place over several years and plans community meetings this year to outline school officials’ hopes for the system, and to learn what parents and residents want to see in the schools.”
On that note — don’t forget — the first Superintendent’s Advisory Council meeting is this Wednesday. From the PPS homepage:
Parents and other community members: Please join us at 6 p.m. at Petersburg High School, to meet with the Superintendent of Schools and other staff. We will form a council which will meet with the Superintendent monthly to discuss school news and suggestions for improvement.
