Opening Reception: Main Gallery: Earths Wisdom, Whimsey, & Wonder, featuring the creative & spiritual work of Native-American artist Millie Youngblood Horner. Horner goes to her Indian heritage for wisdom & inspiration, & her subject is always creation. She tries to bring out the life spirit of her subjects, & the work often goes outside its boundaries so that the spirit remains free. She builds the surface of her work with texture before painting, using recycled & inexpensive materials such as old mirrors & found wood. The pieces selected for this show embrace life from the swamp to the vast sky. Included will be a special series of seven paintings, entitled Mays Garden, which illustrate how shadows in our gardens help us discern the light, & grow with the changes in our lives.
New Exhibit: Upstairs Gallery: Landscapes, a collection of landscapes by local artists. To raise funds for the work of the Art League, the public will have the opportunity to judge the work, & will also be able to participate in raffles for restaurant packages & a new easel.
