PPS Superintendent to parents/guardians of PPS students
In short: In an effort to improve communication among all stakeholders of PPS, Superintendent Victory wishes to meet with “a representative group of citizens” on a monthly basis “to discuss school news and suggestions for improvement.” He is inviting all PPS parents/guardians to a meeting on Oct 10, 6pm, to discuss the formation of the group.
In full:
Dear parent or guardian of a Petersburg student:
The Petersburg City Public Schools will become a World Class School District ñ and we need your help!
We must improve communication between all stakeholders of this school division. We recognize that this is critical to student success.
We want to begin exchanging ideas with a representative group of citizens ñ clergy, business leaders, parents and others. This group will meet monthly with Dr. James M. Victory, Petersburg Superintendent of Schools, to discuss school news and suggestions for improvement.
We invite you to a community meeting to be held Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. at Petersburg High School. We will first discuss the formation of this group, then ìbreak outî to meet in smaller groups with Petersburg City Public School administrators.
This is one of the ways in which we will implement our new mission statement ñ our promise to you:
ìPetersburg City Public Schools will provide a quality education to all students that will meet or exceed local, state and national standards.
We commit to challenge and provide the necessary support so that each student will achieve at his or her highest potential in a safe, secure and nurturing environment.
We will provide experiences for our students to become life-long learners and contributing members in a global society.î
Sincerely,
James M. Victory, Ed. D.

Well, there’s a place for public voice. For those who think silencing the public information period at the PPS board meetings is a bad thing, consider this as an alternative to have our concerns documented. Any thoughts?
Questions worth raising at this meeting:
1) Will this committee have minutes that are made publicly available?
2) What follow-up will be required in response to concerns raised at this forum?
does anyone know the date this was issued? how was it released to the community?

Re: release, the school district sent out an email saying that a signed, paper version of the attached letter will be sent out to parents of all Petersburg City Public Schools students and to other members of the community who have indicated an interest in participating in a regular school-community dialogue. The email also asked that word be passed along to “your colleagues, friends and neighbors.”
The gist seems to be: please help get the word out! That the letter was dated 3+ weeks in advance of the meeting should give sufficient time for all potentially interested parties to clear their calendar to attend. :-)
