PPS PSAs
1) Health Dept. to offer vaccines free of charge to 6th graders who have not yet had Tdap immunization ; 2) PPS welcomes donations towards school uniforms (donations made to the Petersburg Education Foundation are tax deductible).
Re: Tdap vaccines
Although the Petersburg City Public Schools, in conjunction with the Petersburg Health Department, has made every effort to notify parents of rising sixth graders of the state-required Tdap immunization, some students still have not received it. State law will not allow such students to attend school.
The Health Department will have representatives at Peabody Middle School at 9 a.m. Thursday, and then at Vernon Johns Middle School later the same day, to administer the vaccination at no charge to students. However, students must have a signed permission slip from their parent or guardian to receive the vaccination.
Re: School uniform donations
The Petersburg City Public Schools welcomes donations from area residents/businesses towards school uniforms for students in need.
Funds can be donated to the Petersburg Education Foundation. The Foundation is considered a 501(c)3, which means that donations to this organization are tax deductible. Checks that are written to the Petersburg Education Foundation can be mailed to the Attention of Mr. Ralph Bolling; 910 Sycamore Ave.; Hopewell, VA 23860 or dropped at the School Board Office’s Finance Department.
Donations can also be accepted at the Petersburg School Board Office, 255 E. South Blvd or at any of the elementary schools. Donations made out to Petersburg City Public Schools may not be tax deductible.
All checks written should designate that the funds are to be used to purchase school uniforms.

All Petersburg City Public School middle
school students who had not received the state-required tdap vaccination by the start of school on Tuesday (about 50 students), have received the vaccination as of Thursday, September 6.
