Artists Susan Singer and Rod Givens at The Friend House Gallery
The Friend House Gallery’s September show, Sept 6-29, features two fine painters, Rod Givens and Susan Singer. The Artists’ Reception will take place on Friday for the Arts!, September 14th, from 7-9. This event is free and open to the public.
Rod Givens will be exhibiting recent oil paintings. Rod has been in the design field for many years. After leaving a 15-year career in advertising Rod joined Ignatius Creegan in making hats. They have won awards in the top fine arts and crafts shows in the nation. He is an emerging painter with incredible skill using color and expressive brushwork. His paintings have been described as “mysterious…compelling…as if some loving process has layerd diverse dimensions of experience.”
Susan Singer will offer viewers a smorgasbord of fruits and vegetables rendered in pastel. Singer has been working with form and color manifesting as beautifully sculpted, energetic, bold and delicious offerings based on produce from the weekly Farmer’s Market at Byrd House Market. Each week she purchases beauties from local farmers then explores their form and color in her home studio. Occasionally she will return to her previous exploration of pure color and create a color study based on the produce she has drawn. Singer’s work will be on view through Friday for the Arts, October 15.
