Come join the ‘bike patrol’ at Petersburg National Battlefield Park
In case you missed the last post on the subject (you know who you are), Petersburg National Battlefield Park has many miles of trails that are open to joggers, mt. bikers, and horseriders alike. This morning 6 of us (including a local police officer and state police officer — thanks for showing your support!) participated in a ‘bike patrol’ — we had maps to distribute should we encounter anyone who is lost, and we cleared the trails of fallen tree limbs we encountered.
If you are unfamiliar with the park’s trails and are interested in learning them, I highly recommend joining us… several of the riders have multiple years’ experience on these trails, and the pace is moderate to slow with plenty of breaks for sharing tall tales, resting, etc. Further, it was great exercise in a jewel of an outdoor setting. (I expect the rides in the fall with the crisp air and colorful leaves will be amazing.)
Currently regular rides occur each Tuesday at 5pm (this may move forward when it starts getting dark earlier). Additional rides are arranged as riders’ schedules permit. For more information, contact Ranger Richard Hotchkiss of the Park at 804.732.3966 ext. 113.

Oh yes, we meet at the visitor’s center, which is at the park entrance off of Hwy 36, near Fort Lee’s main entrance.
