Sales Tax Holiday, Aug 3-5
From the Virginia Dept of Taxation’s page on the Sales Tax Holiday, this year’s sales tax holiday “will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 3, 2007 and end at midnight on Sunday, August 5, 2007.” Exempt from the sales tax: “purchases of school supplies selling for $20 or less per item, and articles of clothing, including footwear, selling for $100 or less per item, will be exempt from sales tax.”

Dredging project: second phase of testing now in process

The Petersburg Teen Pregnancy Prevention Coalition will host a 5-day workshop August 13-17 for upcoming 9th through 12th graders entitled ìFirst Comes Love.î This workshop is designed to teach youth valuable skills to form positive relationships with others. Makin’ Somthin’ Outta Nothin’
Pamplin Historical Park & The National Museum of the Civil War soldier is excited to provide an opportunity for interested visitors to participate in a workshop on 19th-century crafts on Aug. 18 and again on Nov. 17. During each workshop, historian Wisteria Perry will teach the art of making baskets from pine-needles as well as household items from gourds ñ both everyday items available to slaves in the mid-19th century. Conserve water
“The Appomattox River Water Authority yesterday urged people in the localities it serves — Chesterfield, Dinwiddie and Prince George counties and Petersburg and Colonial Heights — to take voluntary water-conservation steps because of a decrease in the water level of Lake Chesdin, a critical source of water for the area’s residents.” [via RTD]
