PPS Summer Gifted Program enriches entire region
From as far away as Powhatan County, and from the entire Tri-City area, students enrolled this year in the Petersburg Public Schools Gifted Summer Program. They learned French, constructed robots, studied drama, painted and wrote poetry. Then, in a final burst of creative energy, they brought it all onto the stage of their host facility, the Appomattox Regional Governorís School, for the world to see.
The drama students performed an African folktale that explains why mosquitos buzz in peopleís ears. The French class put together a skit to show the value of the Language of Love. The poets recited, and the robot builders drove their vehicles around the stage.

That’s so cool… back when I was in school, I played with legos during summer break, not robots, and there wasn’t as much opportunity to learn second languages. It’s great these kids have access to such technologies and skills at such a young age, when they can easily wrap their heads around that which is new. And given today’s international economy, kudos to the school system for well preparing these kids for the future that lies ahead of them.
