PPS announces draft uniform policy
The Uniform Committee of the Petersburg School Board submitted its DRAFT Uniform Policy to the School Board tonight.† It is based on the results of community surveys and the votes cast by parents at a recent Uniform Fair.† Highlights of the committee’s recommendations:
Students in Pre-K through elementary shall wear uniformed clothing consisting of navy blue bottoms and white tops.
A bottom may consist of long pants, shorts, skirts, skorts, capri pants and jumpers.
A top may consist of long or short sleeve polo shirts or long or short sleeve blouses or shirts.
Shoes are either all black, all white, brown or blue. Tennis shoes, loafers or dress shoes are allowed. No designer shoes, two tone shoes, skate shoes or shoes with lights in them.
No excessive jewelry.
Sweaters, vests and jackets are permitted as long as they are part of the official uniform.
Provision shall be made for parents who truly cannot afford to purchase school uniform clothing and can demonstrate that need. Donations to the†Petersburg Education Foundation, line item: school uniforms, can help address that need.
Community comments are welcome. Please forward them to Ed Betts, Interim
Superintendent, at the School Board Office.
The Board is expected to have a first reading of these recommendations in its 20 June meeting. A second reading is expected during the Board’s July meeting.
More details will be available tommorow.
