City of Petersburg to retain outside consultant to study City operations
Last night Petersburg’s City Council considered a resolution “authorizing and directing the city administration to retain an outside consultant to conduct a comprehensive study of the City’s operations.” The resolution stated that the study should be completed by December 31, 2007. The resolution passed unanimously.
Council also approved the FY08 operating budget, the FY08 capital improvements budget, and the administration’s allocation for the FY08 Community Development Block Grant budget.
With respect to real estate taxes and assessments, the tax rate effective for FY08 will stay level at $1.35 per $100 assessed value, and assessments are expected to increase an average of 6.37% across the City.

The RTD notes that the difference between the budget’s earlier proposed $1.33 property tax rate and the $1.35 that was approved will be used to provide firefighters pay increases, to addresses the disparity in salaries between Petersburg and surrounding jurisdictions.
