Walnut Hill, Petersburg kindergarten student wins national recognition

Gabriella Daniels, a Walnut Hill Elementary School†kindergarten student, daughter of Linard and Elena Daniels, has won Honorable Mention in competition against students nationwide in the 2006 Project Wisdom Essay Contest.

Not shy in the least, the pint-sized Daniels explained easily what she wrote about: not being mean to oneís friends. And yes, winning made her quite happy, she said.

The Walnut Hill Elementary School Parent Teacher Association brought Texas-based Project Wisdom to the school, where it teaches character education.

ìProject Wisdom is a wonderful opportunity for children to grow and develop,î said Lynda Jones, principal of Walnut Hill. ìAnd we are proud of Gabriella. Sheís going to be a person who excels, because her parents are raising her that way.î

ìIím really excited that she placed,î said Elena Daniels, who is also the Walnut Hill PTA President.
