Work Places & Living Spaces: 19th Century Buildings for 21st Century Use

Work Places & Living Spaces, Downtown Petersburg, VA, April 13th & 14th, 2007.

Imagine looking into
the skeleton of a structure
that stood before the Civil War.

Examine first-hand the very core of what supports a building that was so solidly constructed that nearly three centuries later this creation is being transformed to fit the style of the new millenium.

Tour eight venues in Historic downtown Petersburg that are being renovated by Olde Town pioneers who will be living and working within the walls of these splendid dwellings. You’ll be able to see up-close the techniques, tools and designs used to convert an old stucture for new uses as you tour these magnificent areas where folks will live and work within the confines of an antique facade converted to modern quarters.

This project, which wasÔø?conceived and first executed in August 2006, features five venues previously open and three additions. Buildings that once housed shops, apartments, hotels, restaurants, garages, newpaper offices, police headquarters, locksmiths, groceries and warehouses are being transformed into shops; apartments; homes; art, photography and yoga studios; a gourmet market; a restaurant; a spa; and uses not yet determined.

One veteran venue is featured on HGTV. One new venue is completely restored with multi-uses and units within.

All can be toured for the nominal fee of $5.oo admission per person, good both days of the event.

Work Places and Living Spaces is sponsored by Downtown Petersburg, Inc. with proceeds donated to Rebuilding Together * Petersburg, a non-profit that strives for a safe and healthy home for every person.
